Coretax: Definition, Benefits, and Key Features

Written by VIDA | Dec 12, 2025 12:30:00 PM

Indonesia’s tax system has undergone a major transformation with the introduction of Coretax, the latest tax administration system developed by the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP). Coretax is the core tax administration system officially implemented nationwide on January 1, 2025, replacing various previously separate platforms such as DJP Online.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what Coretax is, why it was introduced, and how both individual and corporate taxpayers can use it for tax reporting, invoicing, and other tax services.

What Is Coretax?

Coretax is the latest digital tax administration system launched by the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) to replace multiple previously fragmented tax platforms. With Coretax, all tax-related processes are centralized into one system—from NPWP registration, annual and periodic tax return (SPT) filing, electronic tax invoicing, e-Billing, to administrative services and official communication with DJP.

This system is designed for all types of taxpayers, both individuals and entities (such as companies, cooperatives, foundations, and other organizations). Its main goal is to simplify access and speed up tax administration processes, which were previously spread across multiple applications like DJP Online, e-Faktur, e-Filing, and e-Billing.

Legal Basis for Coretax Development

The launch of Coretax is part of the Core Tax Administration System Renewal Project (PSIAP), regulated under Presidential Regulation No. 40 of 2018. Through this initiative, DJP developed a new system based on Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) technology, integrating all tax business processes—from registration to audits and tax collection.

In fact, Indonesia’s digital tax transformation has been progressing gradually since 2017.

Looking further back, tax reform in Indonesia began as early as 1983, focusing on improving tax administration practices and mindset. In 1998, reforms continued with a broader modernization of tax administration.

As part of this ongoing transformation, DJP has strengthened its digital infrastructure through the implementation of the Core Tax Administration System (CTAS), now known as Coretax.

Coretax is designed to be integrated and real-time, offering improved transparency, efficiency, and data accuracy. Most importantly, taxpayers no longer need to switch between platforms or visit tax offices to manage their obligations.

Benefits of the Coretax System

The digitalization and integration of tax administration through Coretax are part of a broader strategy to build a strong, credible, accountable, and transparent tax institution.

Key benefits for both taxpayers and DJP include:

  • Simpler: Coretax uses an omnichannel, borderless system, allowing users to access services anytime, anywhere, from any device
  • More practical: A single unified system for all tax services—no need to switch between platforms
  • Faster: Real-time validation and reporting thanks to centralized, interconnected data
  • More efficient: Taxpayers can manage their obligations more easily without visiting tax offices

Key Features of Coretax

While Coretax is widely known for SPT filing, it offers many more features:

1. Taxpayer Registration and Data Management
You can register for a new NPWP, reactivate accounts, and update personal data (address, contact details, status) directly in Coretax.

For businesses, the system also supports centralized and branch entity management through NITKU, replacing branch NPWP.

2. e-Faktur and e-Invoice
For taxable entrepreneurs (PKP), electronic tax invoice creation is now available directly within Coretax—no additional applications needed.

3. Annual and Periodic Tax Return (SPT) Filing
Both individual and corporate tax returns can be completed directly in Coretax. Automatic validation helps prevent input errors, and the system provides deadline reminders.

4. Tax Payments and Billing Codes
Coretax automatically generates billing codes for outstanding taxes. Taxpayers can also maintain a deposit balance to avoid late payment penalties.

5. Taxpayer Ledger
This feature records all payment, reporting, and tax obligation history, making it easier to monitor compliance and avoid outstanding liabilities.

6. Digital Administrative Services
From tax refunds and data corrections to filing objections, all administrative services can be handled directly through the platform—without visiting a tax office.

Coretax (CTAS) vs Legacy DJP Systems

1. Taxpayer Registration
Coretax offers a simpler registration process, especially with NIK-NPWP integration, resulting in more accurate data validation.
In contrast, older DJP systems had longer processes and less integrated data.

2. Information Availability
Coretax provides real-time data, including taxpayer profiles, rights and obligations, tax ledgers, and transaction history.
Older systems only stored limited information, such as basic profiles and reporting history.

3. Tax Payments
Coretax supports multi-account payments—meaning one billing code can cover multiple tax types. It also includes a deposit feature and supports online refunds and interest compensation.
In older systems, each tax type required a separate billing code, refunds were not fully online, and monitoring features were limited.

4. Annual SPT Filing
In Coretax, profit and loss formats are standardized, withholding data is automatically recorded, individual SPT uses a single form, and certain MSME taxpayers may not be required to file annually.

In older systems, users had to manually input data from withholding slips, and formats were less standardized.

Coretax is a modern tax administration system designed to simplify, secure, and accelerate all tax processes in Indonesia.

Make sure your NIK and NPWP are linked, activate your Coretax account, and choose the authentication method that suits your needs.
