VIDA Digital Signature Technology Ensures Data Security in the Healthcare Sector

The use of communication and information technology in the Indonesian healthcare sector has undergone a transformation in recent years.

Jakarta, September 25, 2023 – The use of communication and information technology in the Indonesian healthcare sector has undergone a transformation in recent years. This includes the use of electronic medical records, patient data exchange via digital networks, the adoption of electronic signatures during administrative processes, and healthcare licensing services. This development has raised a number of issues, including those related to personal data leaks and fake medical records.

According to the Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), healthcare ranks third in data breaches among all sectors globally. Medical information and patients' personal data are highly sensitive and vulnerable to manipulation. Accurate and legally compliant digital security systems are necessary to ensure data security in the healthcare sector.

Certified electronic signatures issued by an Electronic Certification Provider (PSrE) have become a secure document digitization solution in the healthcare sector. Electronic signatures make it possible to create documents in the healthcare sector, especially when paperless electronic medical records are used. This ensures data security and the adoption of a paperless office environment.

“The use of certified electronic signature technology by healthcare service providers will reduce costs, save time, and provide better services while also delivering positive environmental impacts,” Aries Kusdaryono, S.Kom, M.Kom, Ph.D., Director of Informatics Application at the Communications and Information Ministry, told a seminar and workshop on Private Scope PSE and Electronic Signatures for the Health Sector on Thursday (21/9).

The electronic certificates in the healthcare system can be used in nearly all online services, such as health insurance, electronic medical records, pharmacy services, and other healthcare services. The use of electronic certificates provides legal protection and ensures the accuracy of the signatory as well as the authenticity of documents that are signed electronically.

Sati Rasuanto, Co-Founder and President of VIDA, explained, “VIDA supports digital transformation in the healthcare sector, including the promotion of learning communities for Electronic Medical Records (EMR). This initiative is part of a collaboration with the Indonesian Healthtech Association (AHI) and Digihealth. Healthcare digital service providers and patients should not be worried about the misuse of personal information. VIDA's certified electronic signatures will provide the convenience and security of digitizing documents related to patients, doctors, and hospitals.”

VIDA is authorized to issue electronic certificates for electronic signatures with high validity as it is an Indonesian PSrE under the purview of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. Aligning government policies and electronic signatures can help the healthcare industry advance the establishment of secure and responsible digital systems and transactions for various stakeholders.
