Jakarta, May 8, 2026 — VIDA, Indonesia’s digital identity and fraud prevention company, has launched ID FraudShield, the first integrated technology that combines biometric verification with device analysis and real-time fraud detection in a single integration.
The event was also attended and officially opened by Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi RI). “As many as 65% of Indonesians encounter scam attempts at least once a week, whether through email, SMS, WhatsApp, phone calls, or social media. A challenge of this scale cannot be handled by one party alone. It requires an integrated and collaborative approach involving strong policies, active participation from institutions, and robust technological support. The government plays an important role in setting regulations, building institutional frameworks, and conducting oversight, but effective protection can only be achieved through ecosystem-wide collaboration, including digital identity security players such as VIDA,” said Edwin Hidayat Abdullah from the Directorate General of Digital Ecosystem, Komdigi RI.
The launch of ID FraudShield is driven by a new reality in the financial industry. For years, liveness detection has been considered the primary standard for identity verification because it ensures the presence of a real human and prevents the use of photos, videos, and deepfakes. However, fraud attacks are no longer limited to facial manipulation. Attacks have now expanded to devices, networks, user behavior, and even transactions themselves.
Fraudsters are now using more advanced techniques such as injection attacks, which insert fake images directly into verification systems. They also use emulator farms to operate thousands of fake identities and devices to avoid detection, as well as GPS spoofing to falsify locations. All of these techniques are specifically designed to bypass biometric checks without being detected.
“To handle these evolving fraud methods, a single layer of verification is no longer enough. There are three factors that must be verified simultaneously: the person, the identity, and the device being used,” said Niki Luhur, Founder and Group CEO of VIDA. “ID FraudShield is designed to help companies reassess fraud risks and determine how to address them.”
Founder and Group CEO of VIDA, Niki Luhur, delivering his presentation during the launch of ID FraudShield at VIDA Beyond Liveness in Jakarta, May 6. Niki emphasized that liveness detection now needs to be strengthened with layered protection as AI-powered fraud methods continue to evolve beyond facial attacks into devices, networks, user behavior, and transactions.
Liveness and ID FraudShield operate two engines simultaneously within a single technology.
The first engine, Biometric Liveness Detection, ensures the presence of a real human and prevents deepfakes, spoofing, and screen replay attacks, attempts to replay videos or facial recordings on a screen to trick the system into perceiving them as live interactions.
The second engine, ID FraudShield, works by analyzing device signals and user behavior in real time. Its purpose is to detect fraud indicators that may be missed by biometric checks. For every verification session, ID FraudShield evaluates multiple risk indicators and assigns a score ranging from low risk to critical risk.
Together, these two engines create multiple layers of defense:
- Biometric Liveness: Ensures the presence of a real human and prevents deepfakes, photos, and video replay attacks.
- Device Intelligence: Analyzes and detects risky devices such as emulators, modified devices, cloned applications, and suspicious device activities.
- Behavioral Analytics: Monitors user behavior patterns while data is being entered during the verification process.
- Network & Location: Detects VPNs, proxies, fake GPS usage, and inconsistencies between location and network signals.
- Rule Engine: Evaluates multiple risk indicators in real time and classifies fraud risk levels for every verification session.
- ID Graph (Network Intelligence): Connects device, document, and biometric data to detect online fraud syndicates, synthetic identities, device farms, and mule accounts.
Liveness and ID FraudShield were developed to address increasingly complex fraud challenges across the financial sector, including banks, multifinance companies, digital lending platforms, insurance providers, and payment platforms. The solution enables companies to detect fraud risks more quickly while maintaining user experience and regulatory compliance.
“We built this solution because we have seen firsthand how fraud can bypass liveness detection unnoticed. At the same time, many companies still lack the visibility needed to recognize these risks. Through this technology, we want to help the industry detect fraud that was previously invisible,” Niki concluded.
