Beware! These Seemingly Small Habits Can Open the Door to Data Misuse

Leaked personal data is highly vulnerable to misuse through various schemes frequently reported in the media, ranging from online loan registrations made without the data owner’s knowledge to sudden losses of bank account balances.

Jakarta, 23 January 2026 — Amid rapid digitalization, the risk of personal data breaches is becoming increasingly real, not only at the institutional level but also stemming from everyday habits that often go unnoticed. Leaked personal data is highly vulnerable to misuse through various schemes frequently reported in the media, ranging from online loan registrations made without the data owner’s knowledge to sudden losses of bank account balances.

This situation serves as a strong reminder for VIDA, Indonesia’s leading digital identity and fraud prevention provider, that data protection efforts must begin at the root of the problem: individual awareness.

In response to this challenge, VIDA launched the public literacy movement #VIDAJagaKalian, an educational campaign designed to raise awareness about personal data protection through issues closely connected to people’s daily lives, while encouraging the adoption of new habits to safeguard data from misuse.

“Most data breaches are not caused solely by system vulnerabilities, but also by individual negligence. Simple, everyday habits can unknowingly expose personal data to misuse. Through the #VIDAJagaKalian campaign, we are committed to building collective awareness and driving sustainable behavior change so personal data remains protected,” said Niki Luhur, Founder and Group CEO of VIDA.

As part of the campaign, VIDA introduced a collaboration titled “Tukang Gorengan Jadi Tahu”, partnering with street snack vendors as a symbol of everyday life. The initiative highlights the risks of using personal documents—such as photocopies of ID cards, family cards, diplomas, and other personal documents—as food wrapping. While often considered trivial, this practice can become a serious data misuse risk if such documents fall into the wrong hands.

Through this campaign, the public can visit a series of #VIDAJagaKalian activations at the Dukuh Atas MRT area from 22–25 January 2026. Visitors can enjoy free Indonesian fried snacks by participating in interactive educational experiences about the importance of protecting personal data. The activation also introduces various VIDA solutions designed to safeguard digital identities from fraud risks.

“Education is most effective when it is grounded in everyday realities. We chose a relatable approach so that data protection messages are not only understood, but also practiced. Our hope is that small, consistent actions can help build a long-term culture of personal data protection,” Niki added.

In addition to public education, the #VIDAJagaKalian campaign also introduced DocsVault and SecureShare, data protection solutions available in the VIDA App. DocsVault provides encrypted document storage secured with biometric protection, while SecureShare enables users to share documents securely with access controls, time limits, and usage tracking—ensuring digital identities remain fully under the owner’s control.

“Through the VIDA App, we offer DocsVault and SecureShare as practical solutions to help people manage and share personal documents securely. DocsVault allows users to store important documents in encrypted storage protected by facial biometrics, ensuring only the document owner can access them. When documents need to be shared, SecureShare provides full control—from setting access duration and viewing limits to monitoring usage history. Access can be revoked at any time when it’s no longer needed,” explained Mukti Pradana, AVP Product Management at VIDA.

In daily use, for example, users can store important documents such as their ID cards in DocsVault within the VIDA App, which is protected by encryption and biometric security. When the document needs to be shared for administrative purposes, users can use SecureShare to determine whether the document can only be viewed or downloaded, add an extra layer of security through a passcode, and monitor document access history in real time. This approach ensures documents remain secure even after being shared.

Through the #VIDAJagaKalian initiative, VIDA reaffirms its commitment to combating digital fraud holistically—not only through public education, but also by delivering technology and services that empower individuals and businesses to operate more safely and confidently in the digital space.
