INNOVATION AND DIGITAL ELECTRONIC SERVICE SUPPORTS DIGITAL ECONOMY ECOSYSTEM

Jakarta, July, 21st 2021 – The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the pattern of people's lives and led all parties to take advantage of digital technology. The migration from conventional to digital has become a concept as well as a new breakthrough in the business world in interacting and transacting, especially in breaking the chain of spreading the COVID-19 virus.

One of the important infrastructures for the adoption of digital innovation is electronic signatures, especially in fulfilling important document authentication. Based on Law no. 11 year 2008 about Information and Electronic Transactions, article 11 states that digital signatures have legal force and legal consequences as long as they meet the requirements. However, designing digital signature products is an important challenge for digital signature providers.

The Indonesian Fintech Association (AFTECH) regularly organizes Fintech Talks as a platform to improve education and provide information to the public about the development of digital innovation and its role in accelerating access and use of financial inclusion, including important infrastructure for the fintech industry such as electronic signatures. Giving a speech on the opening Fintech Talk with the theme “The Key Role of Digital Signature Innovation and Services in Supporting Digital Economy Ecosystem” which was held virtually, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia (Kominfo), Mira Tayyiba said, “There is a greater urgency to build and foster trust in the digital environment. For this reason, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has inaugurated Certificate Authority (CA) and digital signatures which also aims to minimize document falsification in Indonesia.” She also added that the government, business players, and consumers must be able to feel safe and protected when conducting online transactions and activities.

Digital signatures are the main supporting factor for building trust in digital transactions. In contrast to a wet signature that is affixed directly physically, an electronic signature allows a person or business entity to prove legal identity and give approval to a document that is exchanged online.

At a time when the adoption of digital financial services (including fintech) is increasing due to the pandemic, it is very important for the public to increase their understanding of fintech products and services, as well as build awareness of data protection. It takes coordination and synergy of various parties in developing reliable, safe and reliable digital financial services. AFTECH, as a forum for fintech industry players in Indonesia, continues to encourage its members to improve the ease of access and security of financial services through technological innovation, including through electronic signatures. AFTECH is also committed to continuously improving consumer education and prioritizing consumer protection," said Deputy Secretary General of AFTECH, Dickie Widjaja.

“The low touch economy is a concept as well as a new breakthrough for the business world that leads to 'less touch' or 'free touch' in interacting and transacting. Secure electronic signatures are the most effective and easy to implement method to provide accountability for electronic transactions. Its use is a form of digitally certified identity representation that is legal and its validity is guaranteed for both individuals and companies,” said CEO of PT Indonesia Digital Identity (VIDA), Sati Rasuanto.

VIDA as one of the certified electronic providers in Indonesia has a role as a trusted layer in verifying fintech customer/customer data. A safe and secure electronic signature is a solution and is legally binding. Verify data on fintech customers/customers too utilizing a biometric verification system based on population data and liveness detection. This system enables instant and accurate identity verification that supports the speed and security of digital financial services.

Sati explained that VIDA is committed to supporting the growth of the digital economy ecosystem through partnerships with the government and other industry players. This is part of strengthening and digital transformation, including in the MSME sector, and is in line with realizing an increasingly integrated digital identity ecosystem in Indonesia. VIDA has been certified to ISO 27001 and is registered as an electronic certificate provider or Penyelenggara Sertifikat Elektronik (PSrE) at the Ministry of Communication and Information. As the first company in Indonesia to be listed on the Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL), VIDA is awarded the Webtrust certification (globally recognized internet security certification). VIDA identity verification one of the best in the world ranked at the top of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

Adobe Southeast Asia Managing Director, Simon Dale said, “The Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL) is a program that enables millions of users worldwide to create a trusted electronic signature every time a signed document is opened in Adobe Acrobat or Reader software. Our partnership with VIDA provides companies in Indonesia with greater convenience and assurance when implementing electronic signatures to enhance their digital experience. In the past year, Adobe processed more than 8 billion electronic and digital signature transactions through the Adobe Document Cloud. This demonstrates the growing need for paperless interactions in the digital economy, as well as the demand for document security, authenticity and integrity.”

In digital era transformation, use of electronic signatures is a solution for the adoption of the Business Digitization Process. Utilizing 100% digitization can help in increasing profits and customer satisfaction. Efficiency, Automation and Integration with the current system are considered capable of reducing delays and eliminating manual processes to accelerate business acceleration in obtaining approval (Approval), Electronic Signatures can work on any device and anywhere.

"Adobe's Electronic Signature Technology is a technology that has many advantages in terms of security and speed in transactions, so its use is not limited to the type of industry, government to small and medium businesses, such as banking using electronic signatures as a way to improve service quality." Explained by Director of Techpac Indo Informatics, Thomas Lo.

The adoption of strong digital technology must also be balanced with digital literacy skills and a good legal basis. Electronic signatures are encryption of digital content and digital certificates to ensure the identity, integrity, and undeniability of digital documents and electronic transactions, considered appropriate to be one of the digital identities on the Internet.

Secretary of the Indonesia Cyber Security Forum (ICSF), Satriyo Wibowo who was also present as a resource person said, "For electronic certificates, we already have a public key infrastructure-based electronic certificate management that regulates RootCA and the PSrE/CA industry (Electronic Certificate Provider). /Certificate Authority) which is the basis of digital identity applicable in Indonesia. Even so, we still have to balance it with laws that protect personal data protection and cyber security so that the security of the state and society in cyberspace can be more guaranteed.”

Innovations and technology offered by certified electronic signature providers in Indonesia, including VIDA, are expected to support digital transformation, especially in terms of information security and privacy by utilizing a digitally certified identity that is safe and reliable.
